Why I started cooking for Luna…
Hey there! I’m Celestina, Luna’s human, a trained chef & registered dietitian for humans.
In 2020, we moved from the US to Germany, and we could not find a dog food that we liked for Luna…and she wasn’t overly thrilled about any either (which is saying a lot because she’s a foodie and knows the sound of fresh bread being sliced & a package of prosciutto being opened, she’s a little bougie, I know!).
Anyway…five months into settling into a new country my husband had to come back to the States, for a prolonged time, for work. It was just Luna and me. Our first day flying solo…she reluctantly ate the new dry food & proceeded to be super gassy all night long. (Luna’s a classy lady…and literally never farts, so I knew that this food was not the answer).
In 2020, we moved from the US to Germany, and we could not find a dog food that we liked for Luna…and she wasn’t overly thrilled about any either (which is saying a lot because she’s a foodie and knows the sound of fresh bread being sliced & a package of prosciutto being opened, she’s a little bougie, I know!).
The next day, I roasted her some pork loin (because we were in Germany & the pork was great quality), defrosted some frozen green beans, and cooked some brown rice.
Because I’m a registered dietitian, I knew that giving her whole foods wouldn’t be enough…the pork, green beans, and brown rice were great, but they didn’t contain all the micronutrients she would need to stay health, especially if this meal prep life was going to be her norm.
So I did ALL the research!
First, I calculated her macro nutrient needs…how many grains, veggies, proteins, and fats she would need throughout the day. Then I searched what micro nutrients and vitamins were essential for dogs & what foods contained those nutrients.
Everything you see in here in Luna’s Bowl is exactly what I feed her, every day! She loves it!
She’s super healthy & has all of the energy for our adventures! Luna always receives comments on how soft & shiny her coat is…because it really is so soft & so shiny!
